Skånsk Blommehöna

We are so excited to have added this breed to our flock. They were brought almost to extinction in the 1980’s due to commercialization of the Swedish poultry industry. But a handful were found in rural villages and imported to the states by Greenfire Farms in June of 2010. They are new to the U.S.; therefore, they are not recognized by the APA. (Not yet that is but we are certain this wonderful bird will win the hearts of many.)

Unlike most formal breeds of chickens that are intentionally bred to meet a certain standard, this Swedish bird is a landrace breed. They were developed by adapting them to their natural environment (climate, conditions of the landscape, natural selection and random pairing.)

Known to be a very hardy breed, we have found both the hens and the roos to be calm but inquisitive.
